Teaching the Preuni students MUET.
Iron lady or iron woman this term I assume suits only world leaders n those women in power. The popular first ironlady I learnt during my schooling years was Imelda Marcos, later Margaret Thatcher, after her Aung Soung kie, the freedom fighter in Mynmar after almost 20 years of being house arrested by the military , became the first iron lady of Burma through her followers political transformation in Burma.
All these while only these leaders came to my mind as iron women, but indirectly situations were created for me since my 13 year old age, after my eldest sister got married n moved out to her husband's home after marrying him but left her babies with me n my mom with my younger sister. since I started my studies in degree program in iium n in IPBA.
Since I'm from Perak and was traveling from home the first month, I cudnt join the other trainee teachers in discussions or to do assignments in groups. So I was doing all, and everything by myself, individual assignments.
My University years were same, doing assignments, all by my self by staying in university campus n having good time away frm all the missery n hardship situation though I was short of money to hv meals like others or to do shopping like others.
My kids were in the house with their dad, attended school, only weekends I met my kids but during examination week, I was travelling daily frm uni to my house untill my kids complete their last paper.
In my absence my kids grew up as strong as they can be with their friends n schooldays were their best moments in the absence of their mom .They had their own members, every weekend in my presence they looked very tired n unhappy, probably they miss their mom who is not around. Daddy was bussy with his office n outside activities.
My kids were yearning for attention from their mom, especialy
my son looked thin n fragile with sad looks, poverty strike n pursuing studies was the only solution to change my life n my kids life style, so I was in Uni to change the fate of my life n mykids future with education.
After graduated, though I was the most senior Teacher given PreUni MUET classes of maximum students . Each class consist of the last batch 0f felda Malay settlement youth as my MUET students. Each class consist of 60 boys n girls. I was Teaching 3 classes. Two classes each 60 students n one class around 30 students. Most of these students were frm SMK Besout, and SMK Trolak Utara ,SMK Sungei Kruit other than Sungkai Secoundry school. So 4 schools sent their form 6 students ,that's why the number was nearing 200 students in Preuni alone.
The coordinator Teacher took only 20 students in both of her
classes . My job not only teaching MUET, I was given the lower forms English n my years in Smk Sungkai unable to describe. All those classes given to me nearning 40 students and only the 4th n 5th classes in every lower forms n two upperform classes given to me. Even the upper form was form 4 with 35 students in each class. The top 3 classes had only to 14 to 13 students, I asked why the difference in number of students in same form. One teacher said the package is such.
I knew Ihv been fooled by the policy makers in that school, I kept quite. The worst class rooms given to me, no fan n no air con. I was teaching in The the afternoon in canteen with out fan . I tried my best to do the maximum work , effort n contribution fur the students n school, but my 3rd year was simply , I was pushed to teach in the evening session to teach all the most problematic classes. Athletic training n selection of students for school team left to me . Daily training the kids in the school field. 3 times a week . I played football with my students untill I ask fur transfer to a new school at the age of 55 .Imagine a lady Teacher at 55 given PE classes and Athletic, but never given incentives. I was the schools trainer, coach of athletic and incharge pof dance performance..
My 3rd year was the most challenging year. Most of my classes were conducted in the school canteen n no fan there. The students were 38 to 40 of them, I was given afternoon session and the classrooms were the ones refused by others due to nobfan or air con. Very funny isn't it. People wantvall the conducive environment, more as be higher salary and incentive, but some very senior Teachers gets nothing, bad or lousy rooms, tough situation , handling the roughians, and problematic kids, n maximum number of last class of lower class students, but the Teacher not option Teacher, studied something else but Teaching English , age the students jump the wall untill today,besp2vially during #ngl8sh class the form 4 and form 5 boys. The Teacher still teaching in the same school for.almost 20 years, and chasing away those posted to this school to teach English.
Even the lower forms students were in 30 plus in every class unlike the 12 , 8 0r, 10 in upper form classes.
Only the last classes with maximum numbers pushed to me. Though.thempeople hv been treating me badly, managed to study the real environment of learning and managed to write research paper, which can be used as a guidance
.I accepted the challenge n was there for 10 years.
I was allowed to Teach MUET only fur two years, n the 3rd year After seriñg great improvement among the students, my Class was taken away n splitted into 6 classes, 3 of them taught by 2 classes each one of them.
My policy even.though people treatm as badly as they can , but I keep on doing good by providing research papers which will be helpful in their teaching n those who are in research and Teaching English in Secoundry school ,can use my papers as a guidance.
